Meet The Veterinarians

Dr. Sam Lester, DVM

Dr. Lester obtained a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at Connecticut College and earned his DVM degree from Tufts University in 2008. His first job as a veterinarian was at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists working years in emergency medicine before he opened Coventry Animal Hospital in 2014. His favorite part of being a veterinarian is getting to know the clients and their pets and building long-term relationships with them. Sam’s wife, Carrie, is a veterinary internal medicine specialist and helps out when necessary, performing our abdominal ultrasounds on Tuesdays! When he’s not working you can find him spending time with his family and two beautiful daughters. They have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a small hobby farm. He enjoys playing hockey and being on or near the ocean.

Dr. Fred Levy DVM

Dr. Fred Levy, DVM

Dr. Fred Levy grew up in a suburb of New York City. He studied Animal Sciences, then earned his DVM degree at Cornell University. Following graduation, Dr. Levy did his internship training at the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, took a short, 6-year detour to Gainesville, Florida to practice in an overnight emergency hospital, then settled down in Rhode Island.

For the following 7 years, Dr. Levy worked at the Ocean State Veterinary Specialists as one of their emergency clinicians before leaving ER work for good to join the ranks of general practice and, eventually, the excellent group at Coventry Animal Hospital. It’s exciting to get the opportunity to start a practice from the ground up, and Dr. Levy is looking forward to the challenge. Dr. Levy enjoys just about every part of veterinary medicine but has a strong lean towards surgery.

He’s kept busy at home by his 3 fantastic children, Sarah, Katy, and Tyler, who are continually teaching him new ways to drive a parent crazy (who knew there were so many different ways?!?!). Other residents of the Levy household are two dogs, Benny and Bogaerts, and a bearded dragon named Odell. Outside of work, Dr. Levy tries to find time to hike with his dogs, watch and occasionally coach his children in whatever sports they are playing that season, and hopefully catch any Steelers or Red Sox games that might be on TV at the time.

Dr. Ariana Mihailides, DVM

Dr. Mihailides obtained her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and Technology from the University of Rhode Island, then went on to The University of Prince Edward Island in Canada where she earned her veterinary degree in 2016. Her first job as a veterinarian was at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists working as an ER vet before coming to CAH in 2017.

When asking Dr. Mihailides about her favorite part of working in veterinary medicine, she said she loves that the versatility of the job always allows her to learn new things. She gets to be a general practitioner, dentist, radiologist, and surgeon all in one! She also says she feels fulfilled being able to help little creatures in so many ways and thinks their humans are pretty great too!

When she’s not working, you can find her spending time with her family and her husband, Brian, either skiing, being outside, or traveling. She also loves hanging out with her adorable nephews! Dr. M has one senior bulldog named Roxy and a tortoise named Franklin.

Dr. Gabriela Villanueva

Dr. Gabriela Villanueva, DVM

Dr. Villanueva earned her Bachelors degree from Brown University, studying a combined degree focused on biology and anthropology. She went to Vet school at Tufts University and earned a DVM/MPH dual degree in 2017.

Her first job as a veterinarian was at Ocean State Vet Specialists as an ER veterinarian. She then came to CAH in February 2021, she will be celebrating 2 years with us very soon!

Her favorite thing about working in vet med is the variety the job offers! From first puppy/kitten appointments to caring for the seniors (she has a soft spot for these guys); client education, and the problem solving aspect of the job that requires different skills to not only help animals feel better but to find the right solution for each family, and in doing so supporting the human-animal bond!

Outside of work, Dr. V loves to travel to new places and visit friends. She loves spending time with her family in DC. She can never say no go going out to eat at different restaurants and trying delicious foods! Dr. Villanueva has two cats! Muenster (aka Munsie) and Ceci (means chickpea in Italian!). Dogs in the future… maybe a pug! They are her favorite!!

Dr. Amy Kasprzycki, DVM

Dr. Kasprzycki is originally from Green Bay, WI. She earned her bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin and earned her DVM in 2004 from the Royal Veterinary College in London, England!

Dr. K’s first job as a veterinarian was in Ludlow, Shropshire in England working in a mixed animal practice (aka farm animal and small animal) for three years then did one year in Yorkshire, England. She then started working as an ER veterinarian in Detroit, MI before switching to general practice when she moved to CT and later RI. In 2014, Dr. K completed a surgery/emergency internship at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists. She came to CAH in 2021!

While Dr. K loves the variety of what she gets to see everyday here and taking care of animals, surgery is definitely her favorite thing to do! While she loves all her patients, her favorites are all cats and the seniors!

Outside of work, Dr. K loves to travel! She has been to over 30 countries on 5 different continents (only 2 more to go!) Also she likes going to the beach, checking out breweries and trying new food.

She has one cat named Karen. She is very pretty and has lots of opinions. Her favorite toy is a bottle cap.
